Homer First School Parents are an active part of our school and we have a full programme of events throughout the year that provide opportunities for parents to come in to school, meet the staff, see their children at work and make use of our facilities. As a basic platform from which to begin parent-teacher communications we have termly parents meetings to discuss the children – focusing on their progress, targets, the curriculum that they are covering and ways in which parents can support their child’s learning. This is then continued throughout the term with informal conversations before/after school, newsletters, and updates via our text and email services. Our staff also telephone parents to discuss matters when required and if appropriate will arrange a scheduled meeting time.
As part of our extended school provision we also run a range of parents into school classes and workshops throughout the year.
Throughout the year a range of events take place including our Christmas Fair, Summer Fair, Book Fairs and activity weeks such as WOW weeks. Events are always well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The lead up to Christmas is celebrated with a Christingle Service at All Saints Church, a nativity play by Early Years and full Christmas productions by Key Stage One and Two. During the Summer term we hold our annual Sports Days and family picnic. Our school is a member of the Windsor Sports Collage with our children taking part in arrange of sporting events, coaching and competitions throughout the year.
We have been very lucky to receive lots of offers of volunteer work and we are delighted to have the support of many parents in classes across the school. These parents support a range of activities such as hearing children read and art and craft activities. We also have a fantastic parent association, Friends of Homer who organize events for the children and raise funds which are in turn spent on equipment for the children, these have included playground climbing equipment and touch screen smart boards in the class rooms.
If you would like to consider being a parent helper please contact Mrs Mirfin in the school office to arrange for a DBS screening or if you would like to join Friends of Homer please email office@homerfirstschool.co.uk
