Safeguarding

Homer First School and Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We recognise that all adults, including temporary staff, volunteers and governors, have a full and active part to play in protecting our pupils from harm, and that the child or young person’s welfare is our paramount concern.

We believe that our school should provide a caring, positive safe and stimulating environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical and moral development of the individual child or young person.

We have a  Child protection & Safeguarding Policy and procedures in place.  All staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) must ensure that they are aware of these procedures. Parents and carers are welcome to read the Policy on request.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child or young person’s welfare.

We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child or young person’s welfare.

We have a team of Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) that can be seen on posters around school. Our DSLs are Gemma Sharma (Headteacher) and Elaine Young (Deputy Headteacher & SENCO) our Deputy DSL is Ellie Noon (Deputy SENCO)

If you are concerned about a child or young person’s welfare, please report this to a DSL immediately.
