Year 3/4- Sapphire
17/05/2024- Trip to Henley to visit the River and Rowing Museum.
We had a fabulous day visiting the excellent River and Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames. We thoroughly enjoyed looking through all the exhibits and the workshops on The Wind In The Willows. This was such a fantastic start to our summer projects and play of The Wind In the Willows.
Also, we were luckily enough that the King's Swan Marksman was there at the same time, and he kindly took time out of his day to speak to us about swans, the King's passion in them and his job in looking after them.

Maths
This term in our Maths lessons we been looking at place value. We have used place value grids to help us identify and understand numbers up to 10,000! We have now moved onto looking at adding and subtracting in our lessons, this place value knowledge will help with this.
Also, this year we are having a continuous focus on our times tables. We are using base 10, both in concrete and pictorial form, to help us with our fluency and speed of recall with our times tables. There is a picture below to show an example of this with the 3 and 4 times tables.
English
This term in English we started off looking at poems. We focused on haiku and cinquain poems relating to nature. We have now moved onto looking at writing persuasive letters.
We use lots of visuals like below to unpick texts and their structure.
Mr Finney
I am the teacher for Sapphire class and this is going to be my fifth year at Homer. My aim is to make everyday exciting and filled with opportunities to learn. I enjoy teaching all subjects but you will see me get extremely enthusiastic (and competitive) during PE lessons. Outside of the classroom I enjoy playing sports, seeing friends and family, and going for walks with my dog Matilda and daughter Delilah. I cannot wait until September to see you all in the classroom.
