Special Educational Needs and Disability

At Homer we are committed to providing every child with an equal opportunity to achieve in all areas of school life. Our SEND policy sets out how we follow the SEND code of practice. Our local offer is a means of providing information to parents and carers about how we support children with additional and or special educational needs. As parents and carers, you are fully involved at every stage of meeting your child's needs, should you wish to discuss your child’s needs please contact the school’s SENCOs Mrs Young and Miss Noon via the school office.

My Happy Mind

We are pleased to be a 'myHappymind’ school. ‘myHappymind’ is all based around helping children to understand how their brain works and to support them in developing positive skills and habits to be their very best selves! We started our 'myHappymind' in February 2024.

The Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation are used throughout the school and are a key part of our Behaviour Regulation Policy.

The Zones of Regulation is a framework designed to help individuals, particularly children, develop self-regulation skills and emotional control. It categorizes emotions and states of alertness into four coloured zones:

  • Blue Zone: Low states of alertness (sad, tired).

  • Green Zone: Optimal state of alertness (calm, focused).

  • Yellow Zone: Heightened state of alertness (frustrated, anxious).

  • Red Zone: Extremely heightened state of alertness (angry, out of control).

The Zones of Regulation provide a common language for children to express and understand their emotions, as well as tools and strategies to help them move between zones. The goal is to help pupils recognise and regulate their emotions, leading to improved self-control, social interactions, and overall well-being.
