Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
At Homer First School we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education is vital in ensuring the best outcomes for our children. Within this, we teach Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education within the PSHE curriculum. Biological aspects of RSE are taught within the Science curriculum and other aspects are covered in Religious studies.
To ensure that our pupils can embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life, they require the knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy. We teach the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships in a fun and sensitive way. This helps children to build and develop their friendships, family relationships and relationships with other children and adults.
To ensure that the delivery of this subject meets the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum requirements we deliver the above through a resource called 1 Decision. 1 Decision is an online platform that has a wealth of interactive content suitable for all learning styles. Our Reception children learn through interactive story books followed by class discussions which are sent home via evidence me on a weekly basis. When children transition to year 1 they are then provided with a work book that they will work through up until they leave us in year 4. We regularly have PSHE assemblies throughout the year as a whole school.
We are also a 'myHappymind’ school. ‘myHappymind’ is all based around helping children to understand how their brain works and to support them in developing positive skills and habits to be their very best selves!
‘myHappymind’ is delivered by class teachers through a series of interactive lessons and then the children apply these learnings throughout the day.
We do whole school sessions of 'myHappymind' every Tuesday morning.
Keep a look out for the end of module newsletters which will be sent out when each module is completed!
