Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
At Homer First School we believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education is vital in ensuring the best outcomes for our children. Within this, we teach Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education within the PSHE curriculum. Biological aspects of RSE are taught within the Science curriculum and other aspects are covered in Religious studies.
To ensure that our pupils can embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life, they require the knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy. We teach the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships in a fun and sensitive way. This helps children to build and develop their friendships, family relationships and relationships with other children and adults.
To ensure that the delivery of this subject meets the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum requirements we deliver the above through a resource called 1 Decision. 1 Decision is an online platform that has a wealth of interactive content suitable for all learning styles. Our Reception children learn through interactive story books followed by class discussions which are sent home via evidence me on a weekly basis. When children transition to year 1 they are then provided with a work book that they will work through up until they leave us in year 4. We regularly have PSHE assemblies throughout the year as a whole school.
Anti Bullying week 2022
We have enjoyed taking part in anti bullying week (wc14/11/2022). We have completed a range of activities all linked to the theme 'Reach Out'. To kick start bullying week, we had odd socks day on Monday where we could come into school wearing odd socks! We have also enjoyed designing our own odd socks.
Fantastic Fred
We have enjoyed having the Fantastic Fred experience in to help us learn more about our mental health. Fantastic Fred experience is a live performance-led mental health resource for primary aged children delivered by a team of trained actors. Children are able to take part in a live, interactive and engaging performance delivered inside an immersive mobile classroom, your school hall or a large classroom. Have a look at some of the photos below showing what fun we had!
