  • Visit from the Cats' Protection

    Mon 17 Oct 2022

    Key Stage One Science

On Monday 10th October, two volunteers from The Cats’ Protection came to talk to Garnet, Emerald and Topaz about looking after cats.

This fits in with the science lessons where we have been finding out what different animals need to be happy and healthy.

We found out things that are not good or dangerous for cats and also what cats need and like.

We all got an activity booklet and sticker.

We presented them with a big hamper of cat food, treats and toys to take back to their rescue centres.

Here is a photo of them giving our hamper to ‘Puss Cat’ at one of their rescue centres.

  • Homer Jubliee Garden update

    Fri 07 Oct 2022

Last year, as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, we decided to change a piece of derelict land into a garden for all to enjoy.

With lots of support from staff and parents, the garden was created and decorated and has become a focal point for people as they walk into school. Each child created a tile which is on display and has their name visible.

Over the summer the garden flourished and the small area across the path where wild flower seeds were planted, began to grow.  The vegetable trough was good fun for KS1 to grow and harvest.

Now, starting a new school year, we have a Homer Growers Club that meet weekly to develop and look after the garden and the new wild flower area that is growing in size. This is 14 Y4 children and two staff that meet on a Monday after school with gardening gloves and wellies, ready to work hard.

Currently, we are planting bulbs in containers and also in the planters outside the classrooms and the office so that we have some colour in the springtime.

We had an offer from DK Roofing to replace the shed roof so that we had a useable shed to keep things in.  Dan came and has given us a new roof with guttering ready to get a water butt in place.

Over the winter, we will continue to look after the plants The area under the black plastic should be getting prepared to let us increase the wild flower area to encourage the bees and butterflies.

Thank you to everyone that has donated in any way.  Without you, it wouldn’t have happened.

Donations are always welcome – especially compost.
