Year 4 - Amethyst

The Secret Garden Theatre Show

On 6th May we had a very exciting visit from M & M Theatrical Productions with their show 'The Secret Garden'. The show was fantastic, with a great story and plenty of songs we could sing and clap along to. After the main show, Year 4 were invited to stay for a workshop where we got to learn about how the show was put together and found out about how some of the special effects were created. There were some great questions from the children and a few people were lucky enough to be able to test out some of the sound and lighting equipment.

Crazy Hair Day

At the end of our Rainforest topic we produced some excellent artwork based on our knowledge of rainforest creatures and plants. First, we sketched out our ideas in pencil then used a watercolour paint palette to add the colours. Everyone worked very hard and we are very proud of our finished paintings.

Trip to the Easter Art Expo at All Saint's Church

Red Nose Day

On Friday 11th March we had a very exciting visit from ZooLab who bought some creatures from the rainforest into school. We learned all about how they are adapted to life in the rainforest as well as finding out what they eat and how they move. We were able to carefully hold some of the creatures such as the snake, giant snail, millipede and rat. There was also a tarantula and scorpion but they stayed inside their tanks!

On 16th November, KS2 held an Ancient Greeks Day. The children came in dressed as Greek citizens and took part in lots of different activities. We began with a costume parade in the hall, then learned about traditional foods from the time of Ancient Greece. Next, we tasted some foods such as pitta bread, feta cheese, olives, dried figs and grape juice. Our next activity was making laurel wreaths like the Greeks used to hand out at the Olympic games. We also made colourful cuff bracelets. In the afternoon we found out how the Ancient Olympics started then tried some of the sports ourselves. We had a go at javelin, shot put (using beanbags!) and ran a class marathon of 26 miles by jogging a mile each! It was a brilliant day.

Go Ape Trip

On Tuesday 21st September Year 4 went on a school trip to Go Ape in Black Park Slough. We had an amazing day completing the journey around the tree tops. Some people were a bit nervous to start with but they were very brave and everyone completed the course at least once. All the children were so encouraging of each other. We were very proud of them all!

Amethyst Class Staff

Miss Henderson

I am Amethyst class teacher and KS2 Leader. I have been at Homer for quite a long time and have taught in lots of different age groups. I especially enjoy working with the Year 4s and helping them to get ready for middle school. English is my favourite subject to teach but I also really like doing lots of Art and DT lessons. When I am not at school I enjoy going to the theatre to see musicals, eating out in nice restaurants and spending time with my nephews. I am excited to meet my new class properly in September and getting to know you all.

Mrs Bleach

I teach in several classes, often teaching Science as I really enjoy finding out about things and helping you to investigate the world.  My main hobby is music – I play the piano, clarinet and flute and I enjoy singing in a choir every week.  You’ll often find me singing to myself! I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and having lots of fun.

Miss Carlton

I am a teaching assistant in Amethyst class. I joined Homer First School when my own two sons were pupils here and I enjoyed it so much that I am still working here fifteen years later!  When I am not in school I spend lots of my time with my friends, shopping or eating out. I have a little dog called Ollie at home, who loves to sit and cuddle up in the evenings on the sofa with me. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and having lots of fun together in September.

Mrs Huskings

I joined Homer First School 8 years ago and have worked in all year groups. My favourite hobbies are spending time with my family and reading. I am really looking forward to seeing you all back in September.
